Lenovo Legion 7 AMD Ryzen Laptop Review | World's First 16" 165hz Gaming Laptop

The Lenovo legion 7 is the world's first 16-inch 165-hertz gaming laptop and it's powered by AMD you can spec it with up to a ryzen 9 5900 hx RTX 3080 32 gigs of ram and 2 terabytes of storage.

Design of The Lenovo Legion 7

The Lenovo Legion 7

Let's talk about the design of Lenovo Legion 7. we have this premium understated design with an aluminum chassis this dark gray sort of anthracite color is called storm gray if you were wondering and

we've also got this little glossy legion logo giving it a bit of flair also considering this is a 16-inch gaming laptop the fact that it is about 2.5 kilograms or 5.5 pounds means it is surprisingly portable.

The lenovo legion 7 rotating 180 degrees

The first time you open it, you'll be surprised to see that the screen keeps rotating 180 degrees, so the screen can be completely flat and having so much flexibility is useful, especially if you're using this on a laptop stand and Of course,

no gaming laptop will be complete without a good and faster RGB along with the RGB corsair IQ keyboard.

we have this RGB strip running on the front and sides of the chassis, even coming out of the ventilation openings and, particularly in low light, it makes the legion 7 stand out and you can customize it through the IQ software if you don't want a constant flurry of rainbow RGB or you can simply turn it off if that is not your preference.

Screen and Display of The Lenovo Legion 7

let's talk about this screen because not only is it 16 inches, which means you're getting a little more screen space as the phrase gets bigger, that's better, but they've also made the bezels incredibly thin, so they don't add much to the laptop size but with 16 inches full HD it's not really sharp enough and of course 4k just wrecks your frame rate so sensibly they went into the middle of the road with quad HD plus or 2560 by 1600 what if you know what your resolutions mean yes this is a 16 x 10 aspect ratio I'm really happy with it means the screen is a little taller.

3 millisecond Nvidia g-sync response time

Add to that a fast 165-hertz refresh rate, 3 millisecond Nvidia g-sync response time, and AMD freesync premium, you can't ask for more.

well, except it's Pantone color calibrated as well, we have 100 SRGB and an impressive 500 nits of brightness so it's easy to use and supports hdr 400 display and Dolby vision hdr.

in the perfect world, there might be an OLED or mini led option which would have been nice to see and also if you are going to play the most demanding aaa games then I would probably specify this with a 30 70 or 80 uh one of the highest SKUs to hit the maximum 165 hertz in quad HD or you can simply downsize to 1080p.

Performance of The Lenovo Legion 7

The performance of this laptop is simply mind-blowing for gaming. we also have the legion ai engine from Lenovo, so when you launch a game, it optimizes the hardware, software, drivers and then gives the best possible performance and uniquely they have 16 custom profiles tuned for the 16 games aaa most popular they say to increase your fps between 5 and 16.

Pressing the function key and Q together is also a quick shortcut to switch between fan profiles or you can just keep it in auto mode, but even after hours of gameplay, the legion 7 didn't get uncomfortably hot or noisy with its legion cold front 3.0 technology and the dual fan system we have here seems to work well.

Battery Performance of The Lenovo Legion 7

I still think it's crazy that you can do this on a gaming laptop. but Lenovo says that with the legion 7 you can get up to about 8 hours of battery life, though not when playing games:(

we also have a fast 300-watt power supply that plugs into the back here along with all the other ports, although the USBs also support a power supply up to 100 watts, so you can charge it that way, but not so fast.

About AMD RYZEN

AMD RYZEN

The good thing about having an AMD ryzen 5000 chip is that even this entry-level model has 8 cores and 16 threads, so you can use that for gaming or you can use it for work, editing rendering by opening several chrome tabs.

Built on a 7-nanometer architecture they are fast and energy-efficient and particularly good for thin and light gaming laptops like this one, for example, the higher-spec ryzen 9 5900 HX has a 31 percent smaller power envelope than a 99 11 980 HK,

which in turn gives you better battery life and also a quieter and cooler laptop, so on battlefield 2042 with high quad HD settings you'll get an average of 82 fps in this basic spec.

The Lenovo Legion 7 Ports & Other Specs

Ports of legion 7

Just a quick mention of the ports because we have one of everything with that on the sides we have these two c USB 3.2 gen 2s that also support power supply,

but pretty much everything else is on the back, which is great because it keeps all your cables out of the way, including an HDMI 2.1 which is always nice to see. also,

you'll notice on the right side as you look at it we have this little toggle for privacy on the webcam so toggling that physically disables the webcam which is always a good option for privacy.

We also have Bluetooth 5.1 wi-fi 6 and the cherry on top for me is that we have some surprisingly good speakers.
